Many times in my career here I have heard people say that curtains will not be necessary as they have shutters for privacy, but their rooms always look unfinished and bare no matter how much the spend on the rest of the décor.

I have seen sofas and furniture fade through the effect of the strong Cyprus sun over the course of only a year and that was with closed curtains. For the best protection, consider heavy curtains lined with a blackout material.
